Embrace the Struggle

Yesterday I stepped on the scale. Christmas had done it damage, it's annual destruction of my fitness goals. I had not only put on the weight that I have spent that last four months working diligently to lose, I packed on an extra three pounds.

It’s been said many times that it’s not what you eat between Christmas and New Years that you have to worry about. It's what you eat between New Years and Christmas. I always like to relax and enjoy beer and sweets during this time. I like to pile on the mashed potatoes and gravy. There is no exercise during these holidays, just me embracing the hedonism of gluttony.

Now I am paying the price. It's back to jogging and push ups and squats and pull ups. It’s back to fasting until noon every day but more important than all of that is me staring down the barrel of the discipline of diet.

In the ever-evolving landscape of personal development and financial wellness, the concept of earning one's keep stands as an age-old pillar. In a world where the allure of freebies beckons at every corner, it's crucial to explore the profound dangers of adopting a mentality that believes in entitlement to free things. I've always believed that the great reward of struggle lies not just in material gain but in forging an indestructible soul, a warrior spirit that stands unyielding in the face of life's challenges.

As I am drinking my black coffee this morning, I felt a tinge of envy to my friends that have the metabolism of a hummingbird and just never gain weight. I thought about how great it would be to be able to eat guilt free. Then a thought occurred to me. “The journey is what makes you great, not the destination!”

When someone receives something for free, it may provide a momentary sense of gratification, but it often comes at the cost of diminishing their inner warrior. The true essence of personal growth lies in the trials and tribulations, the battles fought, and the victories earned through hard work and perseverance. A gift given without effort lacks the transformative power that turns ordinary individuals into extraordinary warriors.

Now, let's delve into the psychological intricacies. I've witnessed the dangers of believing that just because someone else receives something for free, you should too. This mentality erodes the foundation of self-reliance, fostering a mindset that seeks instant gratification rather than the enduring satisfaction derived from personal achievement.

In the realm of psychology, it's essential to recognize that true fulfillment arises from the journey, not just the destination. The act of earning, whether it's financial success, personal growth, or any other accomplishment, shapes the psyche in profound ways. It cultivates resilience, determination, and a sense of pride that cannot be replicated by a handout.

Picture the importance of hard work, the joy of self-sufficiency, and the enduring strength found in facing life's challenges head-on. The belief that one deserves something for nothing undermines these lessons, robbing individuals of the opportunity to develop into warriors capable of navigating life's complexities with grace and fortitude.

So let us embrace the beauty of struggle, for it is in the crucible of challenges that we forge souls unbreakable and warriors unstoppable. Let the pursuit of free things never overshadow the greater reward of becoming individuals whose mettle stands the test of time.
